A word often used to describe our spaces? Comfortable. One of the best ways to achieve a “comfortable” space through design is by playing with the balance of warm and cool tones in a color palette. Beyond paint, textured rugs and wall art are great elements to explore this balance. In our Iacono Residence, Joseph LaPiana’s blue photograph cools the fireplace and rustic brick walls. For an Upper West Side living room, we selected an orange and gold Rose Cumming fabric to balance the cool grey rug. Constantly playing with this tension of warmth and coolness in a room will create a harmonious—and comfortable—space in your home.
