After a quick art fair hop in Los Angeles, Elena headed to Desert X in the Coachella Valley and Modernism Week in Palm Springs. Combining two of her favorite things, exterior sculpture and the desert landscape, the many installations of Desert X engaged the spirit. Few top pics include Lover’s Rainbow by Pia Camil and Dive-In by Superflex, with surprising material use and vibrant color popping against the arid desert. Albert Frey’s Cree House from 1955 was a Modernism Week highlight. A private home in single ownership since the 70s, this was the first time the house was open and seen by the public. The house illustrate Frey’s counterpoint of the linear and modernist with the rugged landscape.
